FAQ: Question
Q: I currently work with another reference manager. Can I import my existing records to Widiem?
A: Yes, here are instructions on how to export your records from some of the popular reference managers.
From EndNote: Select the records you would like to export - if you wish to export the entire library click on any record and press CTRL+A; if you wish to export select references, click on the desired records while pressing CTRL. Go to the "File" menu at the top of the page and choose "Export". The "Save as" dialog box will appear. At the bottom of the dialog box you will find a dropdown menu entitled "Output style". Click on it and choose "Show All Fields". Save the export file to your computer. Go to the folder containing the export file, and change the file's extension from '.txt' to '.ris' (by renaming the file).
From RefWorks: Select the records you would like to export. Go to the "References" menu at the top of the page, and choose "Export". A pop-up window will appear. Click on the "Select an Export Format" dropdown menu and choose "Bibliographic Software (EndNote, Reference Manager, ProCite)". Then click on the "Export References" button. A new HTML page with the exported records will appear. In your browser's menu, choose the "Save this page" option. The "Save as" dialog box will appear. Save the export file to your computer. Go to the folder containing the export file, and change the file's extension from '.txt' to '.ris' (by renaming the file).
From Reference Manager: If you wish to export select references, check the boxes next to the desired records. If you wish to export the entire list, leave all boxes unchecked. Go to the "File" menu at the top of the page and choose "Export". A dialog box entitled "Export References" will appear. Under "Output format" choose "RIS". Under "References options" choose which references you would like to export (e.g. "All references in list"). Then click on the "Export" button. Go to the folder containing the export file, and change the file's extension from '.txt' to '.ris' (by renaming the file).
